In the Dominican Republic men and women play large roles, whether in their families, or in the economic system. Men and women living in the lower class have a difficult time aquiring employment (Countries and their cultures 6). Approximately one-quarter of men and women are currently unemployed. Women are more likely to find employment, whether in factories or as seamstresses, but men recieve higher pay rates than women.
Conditions in the roles women play change as we move into the middle class. Women who live in middle class have had roles as housewives. The men, who are main bread winners have dominance in the house. However, in more modern times, women have control over how many children they have. With less rsponsibilities at home women are deciding to persue careers and are continuing their education. The role of women is more important in modern times as their voices are now being heard and  they can be self sufficient.
